Hi Ronj!

Welcome to AGL Community!

The smart meters can certainly be a bit confusion to read! Please visit our website here on how to read the different type of meters.

Kind regards,

Yeah couldn't really find anything on the AGL 'read your own meter' page, but . . .

I have the MK7A fitted as my CL meter, with a separate meter (MK10D) for regular and solar input.

The MK7A meter is always on pulse 2 led, so is just recording CL at the relative times.

If you only have just this meter, you should find pulse 1 led is on all hours outside CL times.

Yours sounds the same (as mine), you have 2 meters and CL hot water ?

I assume if you have single meter and no CL (hot water etc), then yours will probably be on pulse 1 all the time.

On my MK7A - and this is just my guess based on observation - Pulse 1 flashes (~1000 flashes per KW) when energy is being used from the grid. Pulse 2 - at least for me - flashes when my solar is generating. So Pulse 1 for household energy use and Pulse 2 for solar generation. Again, not sure if the pulses indicate different things on other meters, or if you don't have solar maybe Pulse 2 does nothing? This is just what i've observed in my particular setup.

By way of illustration - on a sunny day, when I'm not running multiple high-usage appliances (i.e. toaster + kettle + microwave etc.), I'll see no activity on Pulse 1 and Pulse 2 will be blinking rapidly.
When I start using more power, or there is less solar coming in, the Pulse 2 will flash slower. Still no activity on Pulse 1 as (I assume) I am still generating more solar than I am using, so still not pulling from the graid (Pulse 1).
When there's no solar, or I am using more power than solar is generating, I'll see Pulse 2 stop flashing altogether, and Pulse 1 starts flashing (speed of flash depends on how much I'm using.

NB: never see either 'hard on' - I'm guessing you mean it's just a solid red light on, not blinking at all? - which might be something's not right?
