Cost to date and daily totals rounding

(AGL app on mobile and web)
1. It is frustrating to see AGL's inability to correctly calculate the 'cost to date' displayed ...
2. It is frustrating to see daily totals displayed rounded up to two decimals only, instead of the required three ... (having to waste time downloading daily usage data to obtain the accurate billing information for the days) ...
Can these be addressed by the developers ... It's not 'rocket surgery'... or is it? 🙂

Hi @Isti14

I'm sorry for the delay in my response.

I have gone and provided this feedback o the relevant teams.

Thank you, Chris

Kept an eye on the issue (incorrect cost to date) and here are my observations: -
1. usage data (solar sold, electricity bought) appears to be always correct, except the rounding to two digits 😞
2. the cost to date appears correct in the mornings, but stuffed up at around the time the next day's data uploaded and made available for download; usage not yet updated, but cost to date updated badly; (fixed during overnight process?)
In summary, it appears there is some left-over garbage in the coding (and the displayed data becomes out of synch).
I hope the above helps 🙂
Cheers, Isti

Lost in the cloud?...
I was quietly optimistic that the issue (incorrect 'cost to date') was resolved as the displayed values were correct for the first week in August, but, unfortunately, the errors have been restored during the following weekend (fog)... I give up! 😢
(I can only hope that the values on my electricity bills will be correct?!)

The inconsistencies of some cents seems to be the previous days estimates for the last interval period.

It should be a few cents only.

The overview cost to date, and the usage added DSC (daily supply charge) SHOULD match, but it rarely seems to.

I've been spreadsheeting since start of August, and found comparisons all over the place.

Haven't done the full averages yet until end August, but there was one day so far 2nd week where the comparison of overview cost vs usage + DSC where it was over by nearly $3.95, then the next week I had a day a day under by that amount, so corrected.
Another just last week where overview cost was $4.37 over, and that is yet to be adjusted.

Then many other days where it might be out by between a few cents and 40c or so, I'll reconcile both overview and usage amounts once I get to end August, and see what discrepancy there is.

I might send my data to @NeilC next billing cycle end, hopefully get the data run through his spreadsheet and see if the numbers add up.

Electricity usage (Import) and solar feed-in (Export) is always correct (ignoring the +/- 1c rounding errors) in my case, but they are having difficulties calculating/adding the correct daily supply charges (Daily), so the Cost to date total (=I-E+D) is always wrong (out by ~30-40c, which cannot be a 'rounding error', so it is an 'IED'... 😁).
Note: you need to be aware of the ~2-day delay (longer in weekends) for displayed usage data, when comparing...

Usage and solar feed does usually match with my solar app figures.

Therefore the DSC added to the usage from grid amount should be fairly close to the overview figure.

Both on my AGL page include GST, but for some members it does not . . . @NeilC  for example says his figures don't include gst, which is odd.

This is why I find the overview to usage page figures so off right now, it's out more than normal and by quite a way sometimes.

Hopefully my end of August totals will see it evened out, otherwise I will follow up with AGL.

Yes, data takes at least 36 hours most times to get up on the usage page for the prior day, usually late next day or evening, and yes weekends it's often Monday morning.

Lately if has been 2 mornings following for mid week data, but it all gets calculated against the same day comparing to my solar app figures.

Hi Lester,

Just to clarify, I'm comparing data with the electricity supplier's info (in my case Endeavour), also used by AGL (retailer) for displaying usage so far (and billing); the displayed import and export data always match (ignoring the rounding), but the 'cost to date' value (total cost) doesn't, and in my case, the error cannot be explained with the GST.
Note: I believe, solar (battery) systems 'independently' measure your usage (export, import), and there are no guarantees that they will match your electricity supplier's data (i.e. data from your electricity meter); you should discuss this kind of errors (discrepancies) with your battery supplier (for example, in my case, why am I importing any electricity when my battery is always charged/available; why am I exporting energy in the middle of the night when the solar panels are off; or why do I have noticeable differences in actual vs measured export/import data; etc.).
Cheers, Isti

Ah ISTI, I was looking originally at "having to waste time downloading daily usage data to obtain the accurate billing information for the days" thinking that was the simple overview and usage differences on the app / web.

I do download data daily (for now) until I'm happy things are all fine, soon after a battery install happens end Sept, I'll be doing weekly for a while, then monthly eventually.

I'm sick of monitoring it so closely, but have had long term issues in the past, many months of no data, or usage all mucked up . . . touch wood it's all been good now for some 3 or 4 months.

My second serious discrepancy between overview and usage / dsc last week for $4.37 was corrected (somewhat) today in the 17th figures, with a positive difference of $3.87, so will wait to do the whole months figures and see how close it is overall.

Well, this is what happens, when displaying 'shiny bars' are more important, than showing accurate information.
In summary, we can rely on the usage data (export/import) being 'correct' (except the unnecessary rounding of the kWh figures), but the cost to date is wrong (misleading) ... too hard for the AGL techs to fix (lost in the 'cloud'?), so my original complaints remain unresolved 😥
Good luck with your new battery system, at least it will give you more information (better estimates) about your daily energy usage!
