I was just notified by my Solar panel cleaner that I have several MC4 solar panel connectors touching the roof tiles, he

says this is a big no. I know it is not right.

Being an AGL install who do I log it with.

Thank you Natalie, 🙂

You have helped me reach the department I needed to.

Though I am very unsatisfied with AGL's actions. The installer that was contracted that initially did the install at my home has been dropped by AGL for unethical workmanship.

I myself experienced minor flooding over night mid install as they had left 2 roof tiles off and it rained that night, the damage to my property was witnessed and photos were taken of the aftermath. I called the installer the next day he came back fast and was gobsmacked at what he could see. He was okay but his 2 cowboy "teenage" panel installers were a disaster. They also damaged my next door Neighbours roof and their landlord is ready to back me up as well if i ask that of the property manager of my neighbours house.

Now I find myself asking AGL why they are sending an installer that AGL no longer contracts back to correct my issue. This for me is a problem as the installer has already sms'd me telling me the MC4 connectors are waterproof and UV resistant so it is not really a problem as far as he is concerned but he will see when he gets here.

This flys in the face of what the AGL engineers are saying and demanding the installer to correct this at his cost.

MC4 connectors do degrade over time and I do not want a fire on my roof in 5, 8, or 10 yrs time because the connectors are sitting on the roof tiles which is not allowed reason being water flows over those connectors when it rains and that is dangerous, AGL have admitted this to me over the phone. The connectors need to be up off the rooftile to be safely compliant.

Let me tell you something, The relationship/communications with the installer are at best "very frosty"  AGL has put me in the position of dealing with a very unhappy ex AGL contractor. He is not happy, why should I have to deal with that ??

I asked AGL why they can not send another current contractor to rectify the issue and they said it was because of his workmanship guarantee. This means nothing to me as the job would have been done correctly in the first place and I will be the one dealing with a less than friendly installer.

Reason: AGL saving some $$$ ??

Why did the compliance officer not inspect the job after completion ?

Question,

Why have AGL not taken out a home warranty insurance policy for my home. the job was 26K above the 20K threshold to qualify for this policy which I do. But if you look into Fair trading it is 100% necessary that my home receives this policy as the job was about 26K well above the 20K threshold. AGL trying to save a few more $$$ ??

Whatever happens next with this installer "that AGL punted" will greatly influence wether I take my case to fair trading regarding this policy "which i do not have"

Natalie I am not angry with you one bit you have done your job.

I am venting and just letting AGL know how I feel and what I intend to do if the rectification goes south.

Would I ever recommend an AGL install ?

Never in a 100 yrs, AGL does not vet its installers properly.

Regards

John

After having my solar installed by a large company, that also contracts out to a variety of installers, I would recommend anyone wanting solar / batteries to go direct to the many reputable solar companies that do all their own work.

Look for one that has been around for at least 5 years, has good reviews online (plus check www.solarquotes.com.au and www.solarchoice.net.au they offer quotes from good installers), read the blogs on those sites and articles, educate yourself a bit as to options for systems, solar and batteries.

You will do well to at least have an idea of what you might need, what questions to ask, and what to watch out for . . . before and after installation.
