Centralised gas heated hot water x10 multiplier kilolitres

Hi,

I'd appreciate some help. I recently received two bills as 1 person in a 1 bedroom apartment using gas for only heated water and cooking that were both $150+ for a month of use. Both bills had my usage as 2600MJ. It is extremely difficult to imagine I have used this much as 1 person especially when I am seeing online that 3-5 people households are averaging 30-50MJ of daily use (my average daily use has been recorded as 160+ MJ).

I noticed this usage is due to my hot water meter reading and it being calculated with a multiplier of x10 on the bill (260 units is multiplied by 10 equalling 2600MJ).

However, from what I can see online, a x10 multiplier is used to convert decalitres. My hot water meter is measured in kilolitres (kL), not decalitres. Therefore, I think the x10 multiplier is being incorrectly used in this case. Could this be confirmed?

My hot water meter reading is measured in kilolitres, and I am in an apartment with centralised gas heated hot water.

I believe my usage is being incorrectly calculated with a multiplier of 10, as my meter is not measured by cubic metres or decalitres, but is instead measured in kilolitres. Otherwise I fail to see how I'm using 2600+ MJ a month as 1 person. I don't use a lot of hot water, I take short showers and do not use a dishwasher and only wash clothes with cold water.

Thanks

I would appreciate some assistance regarding my recent gas bills. I live alone in a one-bedroom apartment and only use gas for heating water and cooking, yet I have received two monthly bills exceeding $150, each showing a usage of 2600 MJ. This level of consumption seems extremely high for a single person, especially when
average daily usage for households of three to five people is reportedly around 30–50 MJ, while my bill shows an average of more than 160 MJ per day. Upon reviewing the bill, I noticed that my hot water usage is recorded as 260 units and then multiplied by 10 to calculate 2600 MJ. However, from the information I have found, a ×10  multiplier is typically used when converting measurements in decalitres. My hot water meter, on the other hand, clearly measures in kilolitres (kL), not decalitres. Since I live in an apartment with centralized gas-heated hot water and my meter is measured in kilolitres rather than cubic metres or decalitres, I am concerned that the ×10 multiplier may have been applied incorrectly. Given that I take short showers, do not use a dishwasher, and wash clothes only with cold water, it is difficult to understand how my usage could reach over 2600 MJ per month. Could you please confirm whether the multiplier being used to calculate my usage is correct?
