NMI Number

I have just moved to Sydney and took my first rental apartment. I have applied for electricity connection with AGL, however they are asking for the national meter identifier. I have the meter photo but still it is not getting the NMI. Now my Agent is telling that AGL should visit the premise and check for themselves. AGL is telling that agent should be able to help. I have no idea how to proceed.
