  • I have just received my bill with "General Usage Next" that has never appeared on any other bill. The cost is insanely high $500+ didn’t had this general usage next with the previous bills.

No changes with our household electronics usage.

Though we have 14 solar panels on the our property and this is unbelievable.

could somebody help me understand this?

greatly appreciated

Regards

A lot depends on where you are @Seli as all DSPNs have various tariffs available (single rate, TOU - time of use, some with demand charge attached), different rates, daily supply charge, and solar FITs.

I have seen those General Usage Next before, though from memory, the same rate was attached.

Is yours a different, higher rate ?

Sometimes used to try and get people to use less power.

Have you had solar a while, or is it recent ?

If recent, were you put onto a TOU plan, if changing from an old analogue meter when solar went on ?

All power prices went up across Australia on July 1st, some fairly significantly, and many areas saw solar FITs drop.

Maybe grab your last bill(s), and check :

Is the plan name the same ?

Did the old plan expire and you were put onto a core / basic plan ? (usually you get notice of this beforehand)

Is the tariff structure the same ? (ok, the general usage next is new, why ? different plan ? same plan ?)

Is you kwh usage the same ?

Is usage actual or estimated ? (if old meter that has to be read, unlikely if it's new solar on)

How much change is there in pricing for tariffs / times, and daily supply charge ?

Is there any catch up on this bill if past bills have (if) they've been underestimated ?

How does your solar FIT compare ?

Things are changing fast in the energy market, costs seem to be ever upwards, while we are told renewables are cheapest form of energy . . . people with solar are often finding it isn't saving them money any longer, and they are being forced into a battery to cover high cost peak usage when the sun is gone through the evening.

Good luck with comparisons, it should help get some basic bill changes that you can call AGL and work through to get some definite reasons for the high bill, and hopefully some answers to correct it.

HELP! Just got home from Bali, spent a month over there and got hit with an insanely high quarterly electricity bill.

Usually it is in between $500 - $700, this time it's nearly $1,800!!!

Should I call ombudsman, because I have read alot of post on here from others who have had similar problems and from what I gather AGL blame it on the meter..

@tazza

I would suggest that you go out and read your meters, then compare the figure with your last bill.

While you have your last bill out, I would suggest that you compare the costs of your power against your current plan.

Everyone had a price increase on the first July 25, in fact I had a price change on the 25th Jun 25 for 5 days which was a great reduction????

 PeakShoulderO/PeakCtrl_loadSupply
1-Jul-24 $ 0.51788 $ 0.30349 $ 0.35497  $ 1.05556
26-Jun-25 $ 0.48499 $ 0.29150 $ 0.33781  $ 1.08031
1-Jul-25 $ 0.54901 $ 0.25234 $ 0.35684 $ 1.12684
 Change%Change%Change% Change%
26-Jun-25-93.65%-96.05%-95.17% 102.34%
1-Jul-25113.20%86.57%105.63% 104.31%

Now if I compare daily costs for my Sept 24 bill and my projected Sept 25 (due in 10 days) bill I see that my daily costs have changed from $1.56 to $2.02 which equates to an increase of 129%.

Now our usage has not changed being around 5kW per day...

Cheers Neil
