Thanks for your question, it’s a really common one for battery customers.

Why you can still receive a bill even if your battery doesn’t run out

Even with a battery, there are a few reasons you may still see a bill:

• Supply charges (fixed daily fees):
  These are daily charges for being connected to the electricity grid. You pay these even if your home is vacant, you have solar, or you import close to zero electricity.

• Grid energy use at certain times:
  Your home may still draw some electricity from the grid when the battery isn’t covering all usage – for example during periods of high demand or after several cloudy days.
  You can check your AGL app to see exactly when your home is drawing power from the grid.

• Battery settings and priorities:
  Most batteries are set up to prioritise backup power and self‑use, rather than eliminating all grid usage.
  You can open your battery app to review your settings and optimise how your battery works for your household.

Feed‑in tariffs and plans that could suit you better

If you’re looking for better value from your battery, here are a few options you may want to explore:

• Battery Rewards plan

Add to those first 3 bullet points of how you can use grid power when a battery doesn't run out . . .

• Inverter limitation:
  If you have an inverter of lower KW rating, say a common 5kw inverter with 6.6kw of solar and whatever battery, and you draw 6kw for an hour, your inverter can only put it's limit into the home's usage at any one time, in such a case you would draw 1kw for that hour from the grid.
