Digital/Smart meter

AGL are upgrading my electricity meter to digital. Is this going to be a painless process? I highly doubt it.
The meter is being changed one week into the new billing period. Does this mean I will be billed for the last week that the old meter is in service then another bill dated from when the digital meter is installed? I will be overseas when this change takes place, so will be unable to address any issues should they occur.
Wish me luck

Hi @Scottie68

I can understand your concern for what will happen with your bills when the meter gets changed.

You won't get billed for a single week after receiving your next bill.

When the meter is changed, they will take a meter reading for the meter being taken, which will be added onto the next bill with the usage from the digital meter.

If you are concerned of something happening, I would recommend you take a picture of your meter with the reading before you go on your holiday.

Thanks, and enjoy your vacation, Chris

I have returned from overseas and have checked the smart meter. I do not know how to read it.

My estimated bill for the current cycle (May to August) is $470. This seems very high. I have never had a bill this high.

Is the increase due to this new meter?

Hi @Scottie68

There are still a few things which could be causing the higher than expected bill and estimation.

I'm going to send you a Private Message to collect some information so I can look into this further for you.

Thanks, Chris
