Questions and discussion about AGL's Energy plans and your AGL Energy account
I just received the latest gas bill which seems very unreasonable. I am living by myself. I have to pay $80 per month. I just cooked and shower twice everyday. This amount is like a 2-3 people household. They said that it is an estimated bill. I can only see one meter in my unit, I record the reading, it did not even move at all for one week, which is unreasonable if I am paying that much. They said I should have a hot water meter. I followed the guide but cannot find any meter under the sink in kitchen, bathroom and laundry. I am living in a block of unit where there is a gas heater for all the units. I am not going to pay the bill as I expect that there may be hot water leakage or faulty meter, I wanted them to check but they insist I have to give them the meter reading that I cannot find. What can I do?
Hi ronlyw0197,
Thanks for reaching out!
To get the information you need, I recommend contacting the building manager. They should be able to provide you with details about your meters, including any hot water meters, and guide you on where to find them so you can take the reading.
Thanks,
SYED

Dispute a high gas bill by documenting everything (bills, readings, communication) and contacting the gas company in writing. Explain your low usage, the missing hot water meter, and demand an investigation. Escalate to supervisors or regulators if needed. Talk to neighbors, building management, and consider a professional inspection if other avenues fail. Be persistent, polite, and know your rights.
Hi Mary,
I'm really sorry to hear about the situation you're dealing with. I can imagine how frustrating this must be for you.
In this case, I recommend contacting your building manager to help locate your hot water meter. You should have two separate gas meters—one for the hot water and another for cooking. Once you've located the hot water meter, please reach out to us via https://www.agl.com.au/help-support/contact-us so we can update the reading for your hot water usage.
Additionally, if you're concerned about the billing, feel free to inquire about payment assistance while we get everything sorted for you.
Thanks again for reaching out, and we're here to help.
Thanks,
Syed
