New account Credit Checks

I have been a customer since before AGL replaced ETSA back int he early 1970's.

My account was in my wife's name as she was the one who phoned ETSA to set up the account while  was at work.

It seemed OK to leave it like that as all our banking was in joint names any way.

I was the one who paid all the bills and my wife and I never ever missed or made a late payment.

She just passed away so I had to start a new account which is a better deal any way.

As far as AGL seems to be concerned, I have no credit rating and have to go through all the effort of proving who I am even though I have been a customer for many years. It is very unsettling having to deal with this on top of loosing my wife and all the paperwork that goes with it. My previous payments it seem mean nothing.

Do I still have to go through all Equifax rigmarole any way?

Phil.

Hi Phil,

So sorry to hear of you wifes passing, a terrible life event to be going through.
Hope you have the family around you to help you through.

The account thing, never had to do this myself, but the Equifax thing got me intrigued, here Aussies never seem to know their credit rating / history on record, like some countries such as the USA.

So I went and did the login thing, 3 documents, it was a pain getting passport out of the safe, but apart from that had my credit report in about 5 minutes.

If you have a drivers license, passport, and medicare card, maybe give it a go.

Hopefully an AGL rep can come along and maybe work with you to bypass this if possible, or work out another way if the credit report thing is too difficult.

Hi @Phil5

I'm so sorry for your loss, I can't begin to imagine what you must be going through at the moment.

When we create an account under your own name, we may need to do an Equifax check, which we can complete on the spot over the phone. Which depending on the outcome we'll advise on if we can proceed or what needs to be done.

I'm going to send you a Private Message to collect some information as I would like to give you a call and assist in setting up an account for you myself.

Thanks, Chris
