Bill Confusion - Direct Debit not matching Bill

I am confused - I am on a direct debit set up for monthly billing for both electricity & gas yet my current bill has an "amount brought forward" which I have no idea where this amount has come from as we pay monthly, plus this amount doesn't even match the amount I paid... really not impressed with this system, the billing seems so stupidly confusing!

If you have direct debit set up, then it sounds like your due date on your previous bill is overlapping somewhat with the billing period of your most recent bill. Can I please ask you to check if the direct debit date for your previous bill has passed yet?

My latest Gas account was for $109.44 but AGL took out $111.49 from my Direct Debit. There is no explanation. It's impossible to talk to anyone. Twice today a foreign voice told me I can't hear you so I am going to hang up which they did. I rang again, went through all the press this, press that and got the same result. How can you query what AGL does if you can't talk to someone.
