Questions and discussion about solar, batteries, and electrification
Moved from ENGIE to AGL to take advantage of the EV plan, on the first day I started seeing my hourly usage with the discounted rate, then suddenly received a letter saying I am being moved to a single tariff. In the letter:
we can confirm your meter is configured for Single Rate Tariff structure and we will charge you the same rate for every hour of every day and your new rates will reflect this.
the thing is, my meter is a smart meter and is capable of time of use metering as is shown in the screenshot. Am I missing something here or should I be calling ip
AGL?
Thanks in advance 🙂
I *think* you can be on single tariff with a smart meter and get off peak rates, and this could apply to your EV rate.
Not sure why AGL would move someone to single tariff if they can get them onto TOU, especially if no solar.
I would call AGL anyway, to nip it in the bud if they've changed you without all the proper investigations for metering for the plan.
The 'we will charge you the same rate for every hour of every day' seems clear they want to charge you same rate right through 24hrs.
If you can confirm you are on single tariff, with EV rate timed on your smart meter for the 0000-0600 period, you might well be better off than TOU (here in SA it's quite high, near 50c, in the 2 x peak long blocks of times for 13hrs of the day !!).
Some states have a very reasonable single tariff rate, mid 30c is common.
You might have the option to get a smart meter installed too, and stay on that EV Night Saver plan.
It's mandated everyone will have one by 2030 anyway, whether govco regulators meet that is another matter.
