Questions and discussion about modems and other hardware used to get online with AGL
Hello,
To determine if your modem is compatible with the Ultra Fast NBN plan, there are a few key factors to consider:
NBN Technology Type:
The compatibility of your VDSL2 modem depends on the specific type of NBN connection available at your premises:
FTTN (Fibre to the Node) or FTTB (Fibre to the Building): A VDSL2 modem is required, so your modem should work, provided it supports the correct configurations (e.g., VLAN tagging if required by your provider).
FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial), or other NBN connection types: These connections typically use an NBN-supplied modem or Network Termination Device (NTD), and your VDSL2 modem might not be necessary or compatible.
Speed Support:
The Ultra Fast NBN plan offers speeds of up to 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps). While VDSL2 modems can handle speeds up to ~100 Mbps under ideal conditions, they may not support the full speed of the Ultra Fast plan.
If your NBN connection type supports ultra-fast speeds (e.g., FTTP or HFC), a router capable of gigabit speeds is recommended.
Provider Requirements:
Check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to confirm if your modem meets their specific requirements for the Ultra Fast plan. They may require additional features like VLAN tagging or VoIP compatibility.
