Modem in meter box?

Received a note in letterbox requesting entry to property to change the modem in the meter box? I didnt know there was a modem? Is this a real thing? What is the modem for and why does it have to be changed? I have not received any communication from AGL directly regarding this.

Welcome to Neighbourhood! Some meter providers are upgrading modems on their smart meters from 3G to 4G network. They only send digital notification 5 days prior to let you know when this is due to be done and a reminder 24 hours prior to attending. To check whether you're in their network, I'll send you a private message to obtain your account details.
