Electricity connection

I move into new residence this week I have been advised by AGL rep that I need to Switch Off Main switch to proceed with connection ,the power is already ON and I have a smart metre ,I have recieved so many answers to this question  so confusing Is it ON Or OFF Please I am in NSW

Some states, if the power is not yet connected you'll need to have the main switches turned off for the connection to occur. If you already have power on at the property you won't need to turn the main switches off.
