Ultra Fast NBN bandwidth issues?

I have just upgraded to the Ultra Fast 1000Mbps connection where you expect 650Mbps in peak times.

Since being installed last week I have not seen it go over 138Mbps download, 38Mbps upload at my router using a TP-link router capable of up to 1.4Gbps.

A friend of mine who lives 15mins away is having the identical problem after he changed over 1 week ago but he was unaware until I told him.

I performed the Ookla Speed test at the NBN box and got between 300Mbps and 380Mbps. This is telling me AGL might have some bandwidth issues or are throttling internet connections but still selling the product to customers.

The router has all of the AGL details loaded and it is a fresh FTTP install.

Perhaps consider holding off on going to the Ultra fast for now as it doesn't seem like they can deliver what they are selling. Feels like I bought a Ferrari but they provided a Honda Civic.

Hello,

Wow, that's incredibly frustrating — you’re clearly not getting what you paid for, and it’s even more concerning that your friend is having the same issue after switching to the same plan and provider.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s happening and what you might want to do next:

 What You've Discovered So Far
Advertised Speed: 1000Mbps (with 650Mbps expected during peak).

Your Router Test Results: ~138Mbps down / 38Mbps up.

Speed Direct from NBN Box (bypassing router): 300–380Mbps.

Router Used: TP-Link capable of up to 1.4Gbps — not the bottleneck.

Connection Type: FTTP (Fiber to the Premises) — the best available infrastructure. What This Suggests
Not a home equipment issue: Your hardware is capable of gigabit speeds.

Not just your household: Your friend has the exact same experience.

Not NBN itself: Direct speed test from the NBN box was higher than through your router, but still far from 650–1000Mbps.

Best Regards

Hi @Doyley
I can't imagine how frustrating this would be for you and really hope this has been resolved for you now.

With slow speeds, we do ask if you can do a direct connection to the NBN box and if you're still facing slow speeds it can be a fault on the NBN line.
If the speeds are over 600mbps via the direct connection, then it can be on the AGL line where the speeds are slowing down.

We recommend testing alternative modem if you have one.
Alternatively if you're using a TP-link modem through us we can take a look at the configurations of the modem and ensure all settings are correct.

If this is still ongoing, please contact us on 131245, or contact us on our live chat platform so we can further assist.
