Poor payment input page

I am shocked to find that there is no automatic population of a customer field when paying online. After entering id number there is no confirmation of where my money is going? hOW DO i KNOW IT HAS GONE TO THE RIGHT PLACE?  If I made a mistake with the id what happens?
