Hi All,

The recent bill from 17th Sep 2025 to 15th Dec 2025 has been so high and i'm not consumed daily usage more than a month in this cycle due to my travel. However, still my bill is so high and need a clarity for the same.

Check your bill . . .

If you have an old analogue meter that requires reading by a meter reading contractor, and you were away, they might not have had access, or sometime meter readers just don't come around.

Does it say on the bill if it is an actual reading bill, or an estimated reading ?

Most analogue meters are the old dial type, but some are digital, they don't have the smart meter ability to send usage info daily to the power supplier, and then to your retailer (AGL), those need reading each billing period.

If it is estimated, they base that on past similar periods, but they are often very overestimated in my experience.

A quick call to give them current readings can rectify this, a photo sent might be needed, and either pay the current bill (getting a credit next quarter), or they will adjust the bill and reissue if it is a hardship for you.

If you have a digital smart meter, well, it should be accurate.

Put this bill side by side to the previous bill, or better the bill from same time last year.

Compare usage kwh, compare tariff costs, daily supply charge etc, you should be able to see what has gone higher.

Then you can either accept new charges make the bill higher, or if the usage is out of whack for the period, you can either check to see if anything in the home has used an excessive amount of power, or ask for what sort of investigation can be done to assess other possible issues.

Meters are usually very reliable, any investigation is done by the power supplier (your DNSP) at a cost to you, which is covered by them if there is a meter issue.

Usually though, it will be a logical reason for such discrepencies.

Good luck, let us know what you find.

Hello!

To address your high bill from September 17 to December 15, 2025, you should contact your provider's billing department to request a usage breakdown. Explain that the charges are inconsistent with your month-long absence and ask them to verify if the bill was based on an actual meter reading or merely an estimate. Additionally, check for "fixed daily supply charges" that apply regardless of consumption and verify if any rate increases took effect during this period.
