All general questions and discussion related to energy
Hi Melissa,
As you are charged per megajoule of gas you use, the first thing to check is if the readings on your bill are actual and in line with the read on your physical gas meter.
You can find your end read on the PDF copy of our AGL bill.
If the read is actual and in line the cost of your bill can fluctuate for many reasons, your usage habits, the price of your gas and whether that has varied from bill to bill etc.
If you want to discuss your account more specifically we would recommend you contact one of our friendly advisors on 13 12 45.
Kind regards,
Megan
However, gas bills often include a fixed daily supply charge which accounts for a significant part of the total cost, regardless of consumption, alongside the charges for the gas you actually use. This fixed charge likely explains why your bill is similar even with low usage. You should check the details of your bill or contact your gas supplier for a precise breakdown.
Thanks for reaching out!
Typically, even when you’re away, if your hot water system remains active, the water can cool down and then reheat using gas — this can happen even if you’re not actively using hot water.
To check if your meter is functioning properly, please compare the readings on your bill with those displayed on your meter. Also, check for any signs of a gas leak or unusual gas smells. If you notice anything concerning, please contact us, and we’ll arrange for a distributor technician to come and inspect it.
