Switching to another provider and refund of credits

Hello,

I live in Queensland and have decided to switch energy providers due to AGL’s high costs. I used the Queensland Government’s website to find a more competitive provider, and the switching process is now underway.

My AGL account is currently in credit, which includes both my regular fortnightly payments and the $1,000 government grant.

Could you please clarify whether I need to request a refund from AGL, or if the refund will be processed automatically once AGL is notified of my switch to a new provider?

I’ve looked for this information but haven’t found a clear answer.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Do I contact you once my account is closed? Can I make a phone call rather than fill out a form? How is the refund processed? Is it EFT or cheque? What about the government grant portion, is that transferred to my new supplier or refunded to me?

Hi Mel_W,

You will need to contact us after you have received your final bill, and all of the remaining credit, inclusive of government rebates will be available for refund.

We can issue your refund via bank account or cheque. You can call us to organise this refund on 13 12 45.

Kind regards,

Megan
