Questions and discussion about solar, batteries, and electrification
Hi @rommel1944 ,
The impact on bird and bat populations from wind farms is minimal, with independent monitoring programs finding negligible effect on the populations of threatened species.
You can view the reports from these programs in detail yourself, including the exact numbers of bird deaths, linked from the How We Source Energy page.
For example, here's the recent (May 2019 - May 2020) Bird and Bat Mortality Monitoring report from the Oaklands Hill Wind Farm.
Have a browse of the reports, and if you need any further details, don't hesitate to get in touch with the Community Relations team on AGLCommunity@agl.com.au or 1800 039 600.
The days of building windfarms or other infrastructure on major migratory routes, or breeding /feeding habitats are long past.
Detailed bird surveys conducted over 12+ months (to capture all the seasons) are performed to really understand the use of the site by birds. Bats are more difficult, but as pointed out, not forgotten, and our environmental impact assessments are now also accounting for these
