For the past 2 months my gas bill has said that the reader cannot access the gas meter.
I don't know what their problem can be as the meter hasn't moved for 49 years, nor has the assess.
Just tell them to OPEN the gate and the meter is there.
Meter readers have opened the gate for 49 years, so why not now?

It’s possible that a new meter reader was assigned to your area, which may explain the change in procedure. Please note that, as part of their safety guidelines, meter readers are instructed not to enter a property if they hear or sense a dog nearby — even if the barking is coming from a neighbouring property. This is often a precautionary measure, and while it can be difficult to judge, their safety is a top priority.
