All general questions and discussion related to energy
Hi everyone,
I've recently noticed a significant increase in my energy bill despite my household's usual consumption habits remaining the same. I’ve checked my meter readings, and everything seems accurate, but I'm wondering if there could be other factors affecting the cost.
Could seasonal changes, new tariffs, or hidden fees be contributing to this? Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Any insights or recommendations on how to better track and manage usage would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards,
Hello @basinis819
Assuming you have not had any meter changes, plan changes, or tariff rises (usage or daily supply charge) . . .
So you've checked meter readings and nothing seems unusual ?
How do you know this, are the readings similar to past bills ?
There are no hidden charges, at least what I have found.
Your bill has all the information and data on it to tell you where the increase has come from.
How many kwh used for any various readings, the rate for each tariff, that's simple maths to see if accurately calculated.
Then daily supply charge per day x number of billing cycle days.
You need to compare all the above to your last (lower) bill, and see where the increase is from.
Depending on factors like metering (analogue or digital), what plan you are on (single tariff or TOU tariff), just shifting some usage a little into a different tariff level can affect a bill very quickly.
Do you have an electric HWS ?
These can develop a leak which can cause increases in off peak / timed usage increases.
Good luck working it out, the bill comparisons should be your first point to check.
Hello,
I literally got the same thing.
The bill projection showed $468, yet when we got the bill it was $803 which shows that we had used 2300kWh in the last 3 months but compared to the previous 3 years, it has always been around the 11-13kWh a day which should be around the 1200kWh mark.
So our bill shows General Usage at all times is 1,275 kWh at $0.3459 which is $441.02 as per the projection was $468, as to why I was expecting a bill between $400-$500 as that has been the case for me and my mum.
There is an extra charge of "General Usage Next" at all times with 1,038 kWh at $0.3459 and extra charge of $359.04.
That extra charge is a joke because there is no way a 2 person town house complex can use 2300kWh in the 3 months, so something has happened, or the meter read dude is doing a dodgy or it's a faulty meter all of a sudden.
I just checked the AGL App and it is showing the current usage as being 37kWh after a few days of the billing cycle which is a load of bull crap... It is not even winter yet, we haven't even been using heaters or much electricity but all of a sudden the bills have doubled.
Our consumptions remain the same as your situation, so something is definitely going on with AGL these past few weeks with the billing it seems.
I've already phoned in to speak to a customer service rep and she has put in a ticket to investigate, and I have also done an email complaint to AGL as well.
Hopefully it gets all sorted because there is no way for our bill at this time of these months to use that much because in winter me and my mum do crank the heaters up, so having a $800-$1000 is usually what we have in the winter months, not period just after summer has finished.
Good luck to your situation, hopefully it isn't anything dodgy.
