Welcome to the smart charging trial community - my name is Andy and I'm AGL's electric vehicle product manager.
Based on feedback from our recent smart charging trial survey, we've set up this community as a home base for you to come to for all things in the trial.
As a starting point, you'll find:
More information aboutsmart charging schedules
Announcements of lessons learnt reports, which can also be found on theofficial ARENA websiteas we progress through the trial
You can also use this as a space toconnect with other people in the trial, and also toask questionsto us here at AGL.
Thanks for helping shape the future of EVs in Australia!
The rates you're charged for your electricity are independent of the trial. For participating in the trial though, we apply credits to your electricity bill, equal to $200 per annum (so around $17 a month / $50 a quarter depending on whether you're on monthly or quarterly billing).
These monthly/quarterly credits will continue until the end of the trial, but given the rates on your energy plan are independent of the trial they could change between now and then if you are on a variable rate plan, which it sounds like you are based on the email you received.
Do you know which energy plan you're currently on? If you're not on our EV Energy Plan it could be worth having a look as the quarterly credits on it are pretty strong. Of course you'd need to compare it to your current plan to see how it stacks up financially for you.
Here are the links to the EV plan, it's slightly different depending on what state you're in:
Also I'm glad you've enjoyed reading the Lessons Learnt reports! Keep your eyes peeled for the next one which should be out hopefully in October. We'll share it in our newsletters when it's out too 🙂
yes we are on EV plan, I just assumed that plan was only part of trial or available to trial participants, but I called and was told we can renew this just close to the expiration, just seems it wont necessarily auto renew to that plan.
Hi @CosgroveAU our EV plan is open to all EV owners so you'll be free to keep on that plan after the trial finishes up.
Unfortunately not all energy plans will automatically renew for you - it depends on the way the plan is set up, and also the state you're in as there are different regulatory requirements for energy plans in different states.
Have you renewed your plan yet? If you want you could go and re-enroll yourself on the plan again through the links I shared above.
I'm curious - once the trial finishes up, what would you be looking for in an energy plan for your EV? Do you think you'd want to continue on with a smart charging offer (assuming there is a reward for participating of course!)?
Ok I signed up to this trial maybe 2 years ago and have had the chargefox charger installed and have never received any information about the trial. The only thing I was aware of was that the chargefox app had a period where it was preferable that you don't charge which could be overridden if needed. Not that we charge our car mostly through the day on solar if available or a scheduled charge time between 2300 and 0700.
That's strange that you've not received any information about the trial - there have been several comms, newsletters & surveys that have been sent out that you should have received, so sorry about that.
I've just checked our email distribution tool and can see that you've received our latest newsletter, so you should definitely receive future newsletters and updates as well.
Honestly there isn't too much critical info to be aware of other than what you've mentioned already regarding overriding the managed charging sessions with your chargefox app.. If you want to see some details about how it works you can read this post about how the charging schedules work. If you have any questions, just ask away 🙂
It's great that you already self manage your charging to charge off solar and also schedule your overnight charging.. How do you go about doing that? Is it just manually plugging the car in the day, and setting a schedule via your car? Or maybe something more sophisticated?
I have used Fox Charge throughout the trial and have had no problems, since the trial ended, I have still been using the Fox Charge app to monitor my usage.
I notice all lot of others have gone to aftermarket apps to control their usage and monitor their use.
I would be happy to stay with Fox Charge but would like to be able to restrict my usage, useless overridden by me, in the same way that AGL did.
Is this possible or do I need to go aftermarket, is there some contact I can talk to at Fox Charge to make this happen.

Hi everyone, thanks for joining our smart charging trial community! 🔌🚘
It's awful quiet round here! Thought I'd get the ball rolling to get some conversation going...
How have you found the information in the community so far? Is there something relating to the trial you want to learn more about?
We're working on our next monthly email update and I'd love if you could help us out to make sure we're hitting the mark with the info we're sharing.
Charge On!
