Very happy to let you know that our new Night Saver EV plan is live at agl.com.au/evplan exclusively for EV owners like yourselves 😊
Simply put it offers 8c kWh energy for your home from 12-6am every day, regardless of your tariff type.
A couple of things to note:
You'll need to have a smart meter (the webpage will guide you through the process for arranging one if required)
You'll keep your existing tariff structure/ peak/off-peak times etc. outside of the 12am-6am window (or if you're on a flat rate, you keep that too)
An important not here is that if you upgrade to a smart meter, your network might automatically put you on a TOU tariff so keep an eye out for that
Rates and solar FiT outside the 12-6am window are the same as our "Value Saver" plan, which is our current "best generally available offer". This may change in the future as our best offers change in each state and over time, but our aim is to keep the the same as what you could get otherwise at AGL, with the cheap EV charging window over the top.
Also I recommend comparing the rates, charges reference price etc. to your current plan and also competitors before you decide to switch to make sure you're on the best deal for your situation. There's so many combinations of tariffs/rates/distributors depending on where you live and your meter type/configuration that we've not compared everything.
And maybe even share in here for what you find! I'd love to know what you think of the plan!
Thanks everyone for your patience as we've been building this out 🙂
Thanks everyone for your replies! I'm rolling all my responses into one post!

EasyMadeEasy is not updated?
but thanks for the update, will try again tomorrow.
@brettrob72 - we're investigating why it's not picking up your smart meter, so thanks for letting us know. If you're interested I've checked with the call center and from their systems it's working so if you wanted you could call through and check rates through them. Understand if you'd want to do this online rather than the call center.. I'll keep you updated on a fix but it's unlikely to be tomorrow.
Also it won't show on energy made easy as it's not a generally available plan (restricted to EV owners)

Not a stupid question @Dave_and_Andrea! The supply charge is instead of your existing one as the plan is for your whole home and not just for your EV.

@DwayneGC Because you have a demand tariff, a reference price can't be calculated as there is too much potential for variance if you have one high 30 minute peak usage period.
But if you click that link that says "comapre demand tariff rates now" it should scroll down the page and show the rates. If not, you can scroll down yourself and look for the section that says "Our Rates" and they should be there.
Thanks for this piece of good news. Apologies for the stupid question, but would the supply charge in cents per day instead of, or in additional to our existing plan supply charge?
looks to be same rates as the current EV plan we re-signed for in July, but the 12-6am off peak usage added which is great.
Is this all that differs from the existing EV plan?
one thing I notice is on existing ev plan you get up to $120 in credits per year (AGL Bonus)
The new plan says $150 but appears to be new customers only?
Does it drop the AGL Bonus of $30 a quarter and would me changing from old to new get the $150?
Hi @CosgroveAU - yes that's right, the plan is essentially shifting from giving large credits into a more EV-centric offer with the overnight rate.
The credits on the old EV plan were originally a starting offer to help with the cost of charging, but have come under some scrutiny offering large credits to people just for owning an EV. This new proposition is designed to reward EV owners for shifting their usage out of peak demand periods. Especially the ~70% of customers who are on a flat rate.
If you changed to this plan, you would be swapping the $30 quarterly credit for the 8c kWh off peak rate, so before switching I'd recommend checking whether you think that would be better for you. Also the $150 is for new customer sign ups only so that wouldn't apply to you as an existing customer. I know that might sting a bit, but that's how AGLs plans are set up across the board at the moment and we've followed suit..
Is this plan available in SA? I have tried 3 other locations in SA that I know have smart meters but still saying I do not have one, as below. Could someone post here the rates for SA, thanks.
Got the notification from Andy on 11-08, looked on the website via Andy's link could see the Night saver plan was loaded but no detail, it had trouble with my address, so rang AGL on 12-08 and they knew about it and signed me up there and then.
I had been on the EV Plan in SA
Peak 53.955 c/kWh
Shoulder 31.62 c/kWh
Off Peak 36.982 c/kWh
Now on Night Saver plan
Peak 50.171 c/kWh
Shoulder 29.403 c/kWh
Off Peak 34.386 c/kWh
Night Saver EV 8.0000000 c/kWh (00:01 to 06:00)
Other than the Night Saver rates these prices may seem elevated for some of my interstate counterparts because I think SA has drawn the short straw compared to other states when it comes to energy rates.
In Victoria, on the same plan, I’m paying 8c overnight of course, which is what I e switched my charging to, instead if 10am-3pm, to take advantage of solar.
So peak 3-9pm is 33c, off peak 9pm-12am; 6am-3pm is 21c. FIT is 5c (ugh!)
Some observations I've noticed: OVO doesn't charge a daily solar metering charge (which was 7¢ a day) and they also don't charge an additional seperate daily supply charge for having a controlled load supply. They also give a 10¢/kWh solar FIT vs 5¢ with AGL
Obviously my SE QLD rates are going to be different to SA but I'm more than happy swapping over.
Hey everyone - great to see the conversation happening in here.
Sorry that some of you are getting error messages when signing up on the website. The crux of it is that our website checks the type of meter at your address using AEMO MSATs registry, but the addresses linked to meters on there often don't perfectly match actual addresses.
For example, your real address might be "25 Fake Street West, Suburb, State" but the MSATS record for the meter is "25 Fake Street W, Suburb, State". This is one example but there are many others where the address match isn't perfect, and we are surprised with how often this is occurring.
We're working through how to resolve it but it will take some time as there is no easy fix unfortunately given the unpredictable nature of the mismatch issues.
In most cases the call center will be able to sign you up as their systems have better address / meter matching capability than is available online.
If this is happening to you, and you want to check rates for your area they're the same as our Residential Value Savers product - you can search for the fact sheets here
Super frustrating experience with AGL just now trying to access the EV plan. Here's the story -
1. Checked on line portal which enables change of plans on line to see if I could change to Night Saver plan - no plan available
2. Rang AGL and was on hold for 25 minutes, spoke to rep who then said wait a couple of mins and I'll put you through to check.
3. A further 25 mins on hold to speak to another person.
4. Explained request and did security check again. Plan available, but can't change plans over the phone. Need to send email link.
5. Asked whether the credit was available to existing customers. Answer is no only available to new customers. I think you have to leave and wait for a call from retentions to get this offer.
6. Email arrives with link to change plans.
7. No such plan available to select.
So frustrating, and I don't think I have the energy (excuse the pun) for another similar experience of being on hold and explaining every thing again. Ironically, it is actually easier for me to sign to another provider on line (say Red Energy with their EV plan) than be retained by AGL.
Hi @Matt_K , sorry to hear you had such a frustrating experience with trying to get on the Night Saver plan. Shoot me through a private message with your account number and I'll follow this up for you.
