Solar credits

Just starting the process of installing Solar. The system I am installing will cover all bills including supply charge.

I am curious if, as I have both Power and Gas with AGL, can excess credits be used toward the payment of the gas bills?

Hi @Mark123 , it certainly can, although at this stage you'll need to shoot us a message each time you want to make the credit transfer from one account to the other. The ability to do this yourself directly from My Account is a popular request, and it's on the roadmap to be added, though I don't have a timeframe to share just yet.

Hi Mark,  Unless you are a single person living in a well insulated residence, including double glazed windows, and not using any appliances after 2pm,then you may be ok.

Otherwise you may be in for a bit of a shock when you get your next bill. I am now in the process of looking into disconnecting our solar system, it’s now a waste of money. Cheers

This raises a few issues for me;

1/ Why reply to a Solved question from five years ago?

2/ Why is the answer is not relevant to the question?

3/ Why is your solar system a waste of money and how will disconnecting it resolve that?

If you read it carefully, I DID NOT reply. I WAS THE ORIGINAL POST 5 years
ago and have NOT used this forum until some idiot posted a stupid response
2 hours ago

And then you jumped on the bandwagon with more comment aimed at me when I
am NOT the idiot you should be responding to

Hi Mark,

My reply above was not accusing anyone of being an idiot. If you read my reply you may observe the @gleanni  at the top, which does indicate that this was a reply to that user. Their response, a long time after your question was resolved, seemed to not be relevant to that issue. In doing this I did not assume anyone was an idiot, instead I was trying to understand their concerns. That is the method I use in order to provide assistance. None of my post was aimed at you. No bandwagon here, just a small trap (forgive the pun)

hi there

Read the  blogs. Just as Mark123 asked a question on credits,

I am in the same boat. Not only informing AGL that today 30 Jul 2025 was the day my solar was commissioned at my home with AGL account but also anxious to know what to expect from AGL with my future Electricity and gas bills.

Regards

Hi Anan, if a topic is well outside the original post purpose, a new thread should be started.

So too if it is 5 years old, not relevant today.

There are PLENTY of solar related topics discussing current times.

The original post was asking if any solar credits the poster had could be applied to his gas account.

The next reply answered that, yes it can, and how to do that.

For yourself asking what to expect from your new solar, that is all relative now to a huge list of things.

Your household usage, when you use power, your DSNP charges, times of use, single rates, daily supply charge, your solar PV size, your roof aspects, any tree or other shading, your location latitude.

It's a real minefield, your solar company should have gone through most of this with you.

If they didn't you might be left with a system unsuitable for your needs.

Here in SA, anyone buying solar now is probably mad to do so without a battery too.

Other states still get lower tariffs and higher FITs, although the tide is turning to reduce FITs to zero, and tariffs keep going up and up.

Remember, July 1st saw a lot of changes (increased pricing) to many states / regions once again.

You can post up a bit of info about what your states / region tariff is if on single rate, or TOU tariffs peak / shoulder, when does your household use most power . . . ie do / can you self consume a lot of you daytime production, or do you come home from work and use power when it's $$$.

What is your average bill each quarter / month, how big your system is, what way the roof is aimed that your PV is on, any shade through the day, are you getting a battery, etc.

Someone could then give you an idea of roughly what to expect, but you will probably have to wait for your first bills, and then bills through the summer, when it will be a lot better.

All the best, solar is not easy, then you have to get on the right plan to make sure you get the most from it.
