I just got my first gas bill and it shows that I was charged by "Special Meter Read Fee-DR" twice. The fees are different. The first one is $5.16 and the second one is 9.64. How did the rate calculate? Did I need to be charged by this fee twice each month? The thing is the reading in this bill is estimated and the actual reading does not happen.
Could anyone help me to figure it out? Thank you so much.

Thanks for your post!
It is somewhat unusual that these fees are broken up this way. However, after adding them together ($14.80) and then adding an addition 10% GST, this figure rounds up to $16.28 which is the standard special meter reading fee in NSW. This will only be charged to you on your first bill, and most likely your last bill as well.
Then why am I charged $26.91 plus GST whatever that is? Has it gone up?
I refuse to be charged for something so petty. When previous tennants left you would have done a final reading. Then a "normal reading" after new tennants moving in would suffice.
No need for this "special reading".
How do I dispute this?

These fees vary by state, so it's likely that yourself and lyllynn live in different states.
I have been charged a Special Meter Reading on moving into a new rental. It is $9.20 in Victoria. I think this is a petty charge that could easily be covered by their huge profits!
Very unhappy about this. I am considering taking the charge up with the Ombudsmen. It is especially harsh for people on benefits who budget for every cent. This is not my case but I don't think it is a justifiable charge.
