Solar Command Check is a daily update, based on your home’s smart meter data for the previous 30 days. It tells you when your system is producing solar energy or if we think there might be a problem. To do this, we estimate your solar energy production, and then compare it against expected production for a system of your size, age, location. We can then provide an indication of its performance. This is only an estimate due to the limited amount of information we have about your system.   We are no longer offering Solar Command to new customers. For existing Solar Command users, Solar Command is a real-time solar monitoring service. It remotely monitors your system’s energy production and household energy usage, calculates your estimated savings, shows how much solar or grid energy you’ve used, and provides this all via a personalised dashboard. An amber status means your system is producing a lot less solar energy than we expected and there may be a problem with your system. There could be several reasons for this, so we’ve provided this useful guide with steps to identify and resolve any faults.   Once a fault is resolved, you may still see the amber status for up to 30 days as your data continues to be processed.

To calculate your solar status we take into account your system details (system size, number of panels and year of installation) and your net import and export energy data from your home’s smart meter for the last 30 days. We then continuously run this data through patented algorithms and other reference data sets to provide you with an estimate of how your system has been performing for the last 30 days in comparison to what we expected.

You'll need to make sure that they can access your site. This means:   A clean site, free from rubbish Clear access to the proposed meter location. Unlocked gates. If your site is not in a satisfactory condition, the distributor, meter provider or technician will attempt to speak to the site contact and advise us of any issues. If we are contacted, we will then notify you.

When selecting a solar battery, you may want to consider:   Whether your solar energy production and household energy usage is suitable Whether your home is right for a battery. In order to maximise savings from a battery, you will need to have enough excess solar to charge the battery each day and enough energy usage to discharge it each day. When considering which solar battery is right for your home, there’s a few things to keep in mind:   Can you install a battery on the wall or floor? Can you install a battery indoors or outdoors at your home? If outdoor, do you have a suitable area with adequate shade or covering? Do you have enough space to install a battery? Batteries need enough wall space for mounting the hardware. They also need to be separated from habitable areas, windows and doors. Your AGL installer will determine the locations suitable for a battery system during site inspection. If you live in Adelaide and have an existing AGL or non-AGL solar system, you may be eligible to join the final phase of AGL’s Virtual Power Plant. Purchase LG Chem or Tesla Powerwall battery technology at a great price.

The current generation of solar batteries cannot completely power an average home in all circumstances.   If you choose to include backup power in your purchase, the AGL installer will work with you to identify which parts of your home can be powered from the battery during a power failure.   It is normal to have some lights and some essential appliances powered from backup power. Batteries cannot supply power required for large appliances like ovens and big air conditioners.

Where you had an existing solar system installed, an accredited AGL installer would have made an appointment with you to install your AGL Solar Command hardware. Where you had a new AGL solar system installed, an accredited AGL installer would have completed both your Solar Command and solar system installation at the same time, making installation hassle-free.

When considering whether a solar battery is right for your home, there’s a few things to keep in mind.   Do you have enough room to store a battery? Batteries come in a variety of sizes and weights – choosing the right storage capacity might be influenced by the physical size and weight of the battery itself.   Can you install a battery inside or outside? Batteries can generally be installed either indoors in a non-habitable area or outdoors out of direct sunlight. Whether you can install a battery inside or outside varies depending on the brand and model.

Getting set-up with solar  Once your solar panels have been successfully installed on your roof, your meter will need to be updated. This is to make sure you’re getting credited through your solar feed-in tariff.    Installing your new meter  Having solar panels means you’re now able to send power back to the grid and be credited for the power you supply. In order to measure this power, you’ll need to have your meter upgraded. Sometimes, the solar panel installation company will arrange for you, however not always.  If you haven’t had a new meter installed yet, contact our Solar New Connections team on 1800 680 430 (Mon-Fri, 8.30am-6pm AEST).    When will I receive my solar feed-in credits?  You’ll receive credits for the power you supply to the grid only after your meter has been installed and we’ve received relevant documentation from your installation company. If your solar panels have been installed but you’re not receiving credits, we may still be waiting for documentation from your installation company. To find out more, contact our Solar New Connections team on 1800 680 430 (Mon-Fri, 8.30am-6pm AEST).    How much will I receive?   The feed-in tariff rate you’ll be getting will differ from state to state and depend on which plan you’re on. You can find out more about our plans on our Solar and Renewables page.   You’ll be able to see your tariff by viewing your contract in My Account.    Tracking your solar power  After you’ve got your meter set up, you’ll be able to see how much power your system is sending back to the grid through the AGL Energy app or My Account. It takes about 2 weeks to get this up and running on our end – so you may not be able to access this info immediately.   While we can provide you with solar insights and statistics about usage, we’re unable to access information from your solar panels directly.    Getting the most out of your solar system  Now that you’ve taken the steps to get solar installed, you’re probably wondering how you can make the most out of it.     Use your power: While your system will automatically sell excess power back to the grid through your solar feed-in tariff, it usually works out better to use your power. For appliances you’d normally run in the afternoon or evening, like a washing machine or dishwasher, run them during the day if you can. This way you’ll be using the power generated from your solar panels instead of sending it the grid and then buying back more power later.   Of course, if you have a home battery system, you’ll be able to save the power for later use anyway.    Stagger your consumption: Instead of putting on your washing machine, dishwasher and dryer, at the same time, stagger the cycles. Most modern appliances have timing functions so you’re able to set the dishwasher to begin when your washing machine has finished etc. This will minimise the power draw and enable you to use the power from your panels throughout the day instead of buying extra power from the grid when you run them at the same time.    Keep track: Using a PV (photovoltaic) tracking app will allow you to stay on top of the performance of your panels throughout the day and compare against its history. Usually, the solar inverter brand or company will be able to recommend the best way to track activity.
