Installing a solar power system can result in a significant reduction of overall bill amounts.
A solar power system harnesses energy from sunlight via solar panels on the roof and converts it into electricity. Generating electricity in this way is considered environmentally friendly as it produces no direct greenhouse gas emissions.
With a net metered solar power system, the electricity that is generated is used by the home or business, and any excess electricity (where the solar power system is generating more than is being used in the home or business at any point in time) is fed back into the electricity grid.
With a gross metered solar power system, all the electricity that is generated is fed back into the electricity grid.
Customers with either a net or gross metered solar power system are paid for the excess electricity that is fed back into the grid in the form of Solar Feed-in credit on their electricity bills.
So a net metered solar power system reduces the amount of electricity that homes and businesses need to buy for use during the day. Plus, the Feed-in Credits for solar electricity not used by the home or business and fed into the grid helps off-set the cost of electricity that is purchased from the grid.
With a gross metered solar power system all the solar electricity generated is fed into the grid, for which the home or business will receive Feed-in Credits, but all the electricity used by the home or business is drawn from the grid and paid for under the customer’s energy plan.
Solar Feed-in tariffs, which are used to calculate Solar Feed-in bill credits, differ from State to State and may depend on when a Solar Feed-in agreement was entered into and the type of metering that is set up.
The amount of any solar Feed-in Credits received will depend on geographical location, the size of the solar power system installed and, in the case of net metered systems, the energy usage of the home or business at the time the solar power system is generating electricity.
Installing a solar power system reduces the size of electricity bills, and can significantly do so depending on size of the particular system installed. For more information about solar power systems, please visit AGL Solar or call the AGL Solar team on 1300 274 165.
Solar Command Check is a daily solar health check, based on your home’s smart meter data for the previous 30 days. It lets you know if your system is producing solar energy or if we think there might be a problem via the presentation of two status: Green or Amber.
Green means your panels are producing solar energy and Amber indicates there could be a problem with your system. In both instances we provide support and guidance about how to maintain your system to maximise your investment or advice on how to resolve any problems.
Global warming is the earth’s average temperature increasing due to the effect of greenhouse gases, and it can lead to changes to our climate and environments. While global warming is caused by a number of factors, a main contributor is human beings burning fossil fuels to produce energy.
The LG Chem RESU10H can only be installed in a location that is fully protected from direct sunlight. The preferred location is in a garage or car port. A qualified electrician will conduct an AGL site inspection to assess suitable battery installation locations and assess your site to determine where your LG Chem RESU battery can be safely wall mounted.
Tesla Powerwall 2 is a next generation, rechargeable, 13.5kWh, advanced lithium-ion battery. It has a fully integrated inverter that enables the storage of energy from your solar system (that would normally be exported to the grid) to be used at times when you and the grid need it, like at night or in the event of a grid power outage. The Powerwall 2 also offers the option of backup power to parts of the home.
LG Chem RESU batteries use lithium-ion battery technology and LG Chem’s Lamination & Stacking technology, which LG Chem states helps to maintain a superior battery lifespan even with frequent charging and discharging.
The nameplate capacity of a battery refers to its total storage capacity, not all of which is able to be used for charging and discharging functions. The usable capacity is the energy storage capacity that you can draw from day-to-day to help power your home.
The usable capacity of LG Chem RESU10H is 9.3 kWh^, not including DC conversion. To learn more about usable storage capacity, speak to an AGL battery expert.

The Tesla Powerwall 2 has the following features:
Backup power available for an additional cost*
13.5 kWh usable capacity
Fully integrated Tesla inverter
Backup power available
Wall or floor mounted*
Indoor or outdoor installation
Up to 10-year warranty
Floor or wall mounted, indoor or outdoor installation *Backup power is available for an additional $399.Backup power will require modifications to your switchboard which is not included in the cost of a standard installation. A detailed site inspection will be conducted by AGL to assess your switchboard’s configuration for backup power. An AGL battery expert can discuss your specific backup power options. The availability of backup power during a power outage is dependent on having excess power stored in your battery to use at the time of any power outage.
Your battery will use energy management software and inbuilt digital technology to help us intelligently manage your battery. Most of the time, your battery will discharge power to your home so you don’t need to draw as much energy from the grid. Occasionally, your battery will be used to provide a local network support or grid stabilising service, for example when there is high demand or instability in the grid. If that happens, your battery will discharge power to the grid, usually at a time when your battery would be discharging anyway. You will receive your standard Retail Feed-in Tariff (RFiT) when energy stored in the battery is exported to the grid. There may be instances where your battery is charged using energy supplied from the grid. We’ll aim to minimise the impact on your battery performance and potential savings when this occurs. Energy used from the grid will be charged at your contracted energy tariff rate and will be reflected on your AGL electricity bill.
The LG Chem RESU10H battery and SolarEdge StorEdge inverter paired together can be configured to provide backup power for an additional cost, which covers additional work to your switchboard. For an additional $399, you can opt for backup power when your battery is installed as part of AGL’s Virtual Power Plant. Alternatively, you can arrange to enable backup power at a later date. The LG Chem battery + SolarEdge HD-Wave inverter bundle cannot be configured to provide backup power.
Powerwall 2 is backup power compatible and is available for an additional $399.
In the event of a power outage you will be able to power low energy appliances. Backup power will require modifications to your switchboard which is not included in the cost of a standard installation.

We all know renewable energy is the way forward. And if you want to do your bit for the environment as well as your wallet, talking to AGL about installing solar could be the answer, because of many benefits.
How does solar energy work?
Solar panels, also known as photovoltaic panels (PV panels), convert sunlight into energy. This energy is then converted into electricity using an inverter. The electricity either powers your home energy needs or can be fed back into the grid.
How solar can reduce your energy bills
Installing solar energy can help reduce your energy bills in two key ways:
You’re generating power yourself, therefore you’re reducing the amount of power you need to buy off the grid.
You could be entitled to a tariff for any excess power you sell back to the grid.
The key environmental benefits of solar
AGL uses solar panels which are high quality, efficient and long lasting.
Any energy used to manufacture or install the system is typically paid back many times over with the energy it produces over its lifetime.
And, once installed, solar energy does not produce any greenhouse gas emissions.
The costs of solar energy
There is an initial outlay to install solar energy (either electricity or hot water). However, you may find these establishment costs are covered by the savings you make over time in energy costs.
If you pay for the solar system upfront, you can start saving immediately. If you don’t have the finances to pay upfront, AGL offers flexible finance to make it easier to enjoy solar.
And, depending on where you live, if you feed excess electricity back into the grid you could be entitled to a credit.
There are also government incentives available for installing renewable energy like solar, including the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).
AGL is Australia’s largest non-government owner and operator of renewable energy assets. And when it comes to solar energy we don’t believe one size fits all. We provide expert advice and tailor solar solutions specifically for you that take into account your particular property, energy usage and your budget.
