controlled load

Hello. My electrician tells me that to have an appliance on the controlled loading tariff (pool heater) it needs to be wired to a separate meter. Assuming he is right, how can I already have a controlled loading component on my bill when I only have (one) smart meter? V.

A single smart meter is capable of monitoring multiple 'registers' of usage, e.g. your controlled load usage AND your general usage (TV, lights, fridge, etc). Older meters are not capable of doing this, which is why have multiple meters used to be necessary.
