Liddell shut down

Could AGL please advise if they have prepared to acomodate the 2000 megawatts of power which Lidell will no longer be producing when it is shut down. Will the NEW power supply of 2000 megawatts be of base load power sufficient to power ALL the power requirements which are currently accomodated by Liddell, such as hospitals at 03:00 hours on a Saturday morning, when all the drunks require hospital assistance?

Depends how much unicorn farts and pixie dust AGL can harvest

Hi  @AC

Thank you for the direct question! In our plan to get out of coal, we are taking all aspects into account to ensure that this transition to renewables has none of these side-effects. This is why we haven't switched across overnight, and you can read more about our plan here:

Although we are committed to the closure of Liddell in 2022 (the end of its operating life) we will only be completely  free from coal by 2050. Some think this is too long, and others think it should not happen. We are working hand-in-hand with the Government and all stakeholders to make sure that energy remains affordable for Australians as we make this transition. Our plan lines up with the science - and doesn't involve any unicorns or pixies! 😉

I hope this helps to answer your questions, and I hope you're with us.

Cheers, Jordan
