I like the idea of paying customers to reduce electricity usage as an alternative to black-outs. It is also a good alternative to AGL buying electricity at very high spot prices, presuming that such high prices would flow into retail prices rather than into reduced profits for shareholders. However, paying me $10 for 1kWh is a very high price. I checked the spot price on the AEMO website (worth a visit) at the time of the peak event and it was under 10 cents for 1kWh. Should I be concerned that the high price of the peak event will flow into retail prices?
