Each peak event will run up to maximum of two hours and you will need to participate for the full event to be eligible for a reward. There will be a maximum of eight peak events during the first year of the trial.
After you’ve registered for the program and accepted the terms and conditions, we’ll be in touch to organise for a certified electrician to visit your home and verify your air-conditioner’s compatibility for installation of three smart devices. The first on your switchboard, the second on the external air-conditioning unit and a third remote AC controller near your air conditioner.
If your home is compatible, the electrician will complete the installation of the three devices, including the smart air conditioning control device, at the same time as the home visit. If your air conditioner is compatible, we’ll help you set up the smart air conditioner controller app on your smartphone. You will then be sent an information pack with the full details of what to expect during the program.
If your home is not compatible unfortunately you are ineligible to participate, but we will reward you with a $50 Visa gift card to thank you for your expression of interest.
During 31 March 2018 and 31 March 2019, we’ll notify Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You participants via SMS when the electricity grid is experiencing high demand, known as a “peak event”. The SMS will be sent approximately 24 hours before a peak event, and detail the time of the peak event (e.g. Tuesday 4-6pm) when your air conditioner power will be remotely changed – without any action required on your behalf. An SMS will be sent to you at the start and end of the event and will include a post event survey to collect feedback on your experience. The peak event may be cancelled up to one hour before, but we’ll send you a cancellation SMS if that happens.
Between April 2018 and 31 March 2019, we’ll notify Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You participants via SMS and the ChargeFox app when the electricity grid is experiencing high demand, known as a “peak event” or we’re running a simulation.
The SMS and push notification will be sent approximately 24 hours in advance of the event, with details of the peak event (e.g. Tuesday 4-6pm). During this two-hour window we will pause your electric vehicle charging station from charging – without any action required on your behalf. To be eligible for a reward you will need to participate for the full period of the event.
An SMS will be sent to you at the start and end of the event as well as notifications from your ChargeFox EV management platform. We’ll then send a post event survey to collect feedback on your experience.

No. As we’re running a pilot program, all incentives will be paid via Visa gift cards in or around November 2018 and April 2019, which can be used anywhere Visa cards are accepted. You can also use your Visa gift card to pay your AGL bill.
We’re only in our first year of an exciting three-year program, so look out for future opportunities to participate after March 2019. If you aren’t eligible because you aren’t an AGL customer with a smart meter and don’t have a compatible air conditioner, we can explore adding you to future trials if your circumstances or our eligibility requirements change.
You don’t need to be at home or for your air conditioner to be operating during a peak event to participate. We would ask you to please indicate that you weren’t home in our post event survey. Please note holiday homes do not meet eligibility criteria.
For Managed for You EV participants, you don’t need to be at home for the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox to be operating during a peak event to participate. You’ll still receive your participation incentive unless you actively opt out via ChargeFox app, email or phone.
You can opt out from participating in the pilot program, or from any peak event by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning customer service on 1300 025 928 between 8.30am and 6pm AEST Monday to Friday.
For customers with an electric vehicle, you can opt out from participating in the pilot program, or from any peak event via the ChargeFox EV charging app. If you’d like to speak to one of our team, you can call our Electric Vehicle team on 1300 001 515 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. We encourage you to send these requests as early as possible so that they reach us in time for us to remove the adjustments as quickly as possible. We will endeavour to undertake the changes as soon as we receive notification from you.
Once you’ve registered to participate, we’ve confirmed your eligibility, and installed the devices at your premises, you’ll receive an initial $300 financial incentive for signing up.
For Managed for You EV participants, we’ll confirm your eligibility and then send our specialist EV installer supplier to install the Schneider EVlink Smart Wallbox at your premises.
For each peak event that you participate in, you’ll receive an additional $30 reward. We won’t schedule more than eight peak events during the year, so if you participate in every potential peak event you could receive up to $240 in rewards.
Air conditioners are one of the home’s biggest consumers of electricity which is why we’re using them in the first year trial. We’re hoping air conditioners will help us understand how we can test new ways of improving the electricity grid’s stability in the long term.
Your password will be securely stored in encrypted form on the devices to ensure your personal data remains completely private. Your password is not accessible by AGL, our hardware provider or the installer. Data usage will not exceed 0.5GB per month.
In the Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You Program, we'll need to monitor your air conditioner’s power remotely.
We’ll use your home WiFi network to synchronise the devices during installation. The installer will request you enter your password into the device during the home visit, so please ensure you have this handy.
We’ll supply you with a remote air conditioner controller which, if compatible with your air conditioner, allows your air conditioner to be remotely controlled via an app on your smartphone, so you can pre-cool your home even if you’re out.
You can prepare by pre-cooling your house. Simple changes can make a difference, like shutting curtains and doors in the morning on a hot day.
In the Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You program, during the specific peak event, AGL will remotely control the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox station by sending a signal to the charging station which will automatically pause the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox from charging your electric vehicle, if it is plugged in.At the end of each peak event, we’ll send a signal to the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox to change your settings back to the mode it was in before. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox is always returned to working as it was before the peak event. We’ll only control the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox during the peak event, unless you opt out.
The Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You program requires the installation of two devices. The device on your air conditioner and the device on your switchboard are both about the size of the palm of your hand. The smart air conditioner controller is slightly larger.
