Re AGL peak energy rewards, why not take the bonus energy from VPP batteries ?

Re AGL peak energy rewards, I run entirely off my Telsa PW2 during time slots which means I consume no power from the grid. For those of us subscribed to VPP, why not take the bonus energy from our batteries so we get a reward for making the investment?

Although VPP and Peak Energy Rewards are separate programs, you can be rewarded for participating in both.

During Peak Energy Rewards events, solar users can receive either import targets or export targets.

If the target is import, you'll need to lower your energy use to equal or below the given target. If the target is export, you'll need to send that much energy back into the grid to receive your reward. With a solar battery, the amount you export will depend on how much your solar system is generating and on your battery storage capacity. If your battery is set to self-consumption, this would make it difficult to meet the export target.

However, when there is a VPP event (different to a Peak Energy Rewards event), AGL may discharge the battery to support the grid. This is where you receive a $45 quarterly bill credit for being part of the VPP, or if you purchased a battery or bundle from AGL you would have received a $1,000/$1,500 upfront discount off the cost of your battery for joining our VPP.

You note “Although VPP and Peak Energy Rewards are separate programs, you can be rewarded for participating in both.”

but we are AGL VPP but when I tried to join the Peak Energy Rewards program the web page indicated we were not eligible.

you note you should be able to participate in both but that for us in clearly not the case!

Hi @Malcolm_Br - I'm sorry to hear that! It sounds like there may have been other reasons that you weren't eligible. For more info on why that may be you could reach out to the team at peakenergyrewards@agl.com.au
