Adding controlled load

we live in an older house which has a single analogue type meter. We don't have a controlled load. Our energy bills are massive (almost twice what they were in our old house of similar size which had 2 controlled loads). We want to know if it's possible to add a controlled load for the hot water or will we need to upgrade to a smart meter?

As this would require a meter replacement, you should be getting a new smart meter.

Ooops Karina,

Once the new meter is installed you would have to engage an electrician to move your hot-water service to the controlled load part of the meter.

It may be possible that the meter installer may be able to do it at the same time.
