@rickyboy1152783 so you need to compare a lot to see what's going on.

Is your friend's supplier also AGL ?

Are you both in the same state / region with same electricity supplier (DNSP) ?

His and your bills are both quarterly (I guess), his not monthly and yours quarterly ?

Does your friend have solar / battery, or much more efficient appliances ?
Better insulation and less heating required ?

Do they use power during the day when it's more often cheaper, versus you working during the days and using your power early morning / late afternoon & evening ?

Are they on a different kind of plan / tariff ?

If you put your bills side by side and compare, you will likely see any glaring differences.

If all things are even as above, you will find there can really only be two things, either . . .

Daily supply charge and / or tariffs are different . . . or usage is different.

Some other things that might apply.

Is this just from the last bill, or has it been same sort of disparity for past bills ?

Are your bills actual readings or is it an estimate (if old analogue meter that needs to be read) ?

Has your old plan expired and you've gone onto a default offer ?

There is a slim chance there could be a meter problem, but in reality that is very rare.

AGL can probably not help you compare your friends bill(s) to yours.

They can probably help make sure you are on the best plan they can offer you.

All the best in your search for lower bills.

..

Ok, you have 2 bills so far . . .

The first bill was an actual read and not an estimate ?

If underestimated on the first first bill, any 'catch up' on second bill if actual read might have seen it seemingly higher for that last bill, not more averaged between them.

If that looks normal, both actual reads, then you need to compare the bills side by side . . .

What sort of metering and plan are you both on, single rate, or maybe one of you is digital smart meter and on TOU.

Compare daily supply charge.

Compare both your consumptions, are you using more ?

Compare rates as best you can, even if different rates for different metering / plan types.

Do you have a demand tariff ? (Often the DNSP will dictate this to all retailers, so might be there for neither or both of you.)

This can make a big difference if not controlled.

Often on various plans, WHEN you use you power will make a big difference.

Do they use power during the day (or when cheaper), while you work during the days and use power when more costly ?

It can be hard to work through some of the different plan types if they are different.
Hopefully you can both sit down at a table with our bills and work through that ok.
