Thanks to Australia's growing solar energy supply, there are now options that let eligible households access free electricity* during the middle of the day, when solar generation is at its peak.

A guide to free daytime electricity

*The first 24 kWh you use during the free window each day is free. Anything above that is billed at your plan's usage rates. Supply charges and controlled load are always charged as normal, including during the free window.

Is this the SSO (Solar Share Offer) as mandated by our useless labor govco ?
Clicking through both the 3 for free and looking for the solar share offer (only info page found), it seems the SSO is not listed and has brought 3 for free into the same 24kwh limit.
They look like the original 3 for free and SSO offer have been merged and the SSO is now 3 for free ??

It seems that way

I assume agl got to the point where 3 for free customers hit their soft target (ie consuming power between 10 and 1 to offset solar feed ins, which will be negative nearly every day between 10 and 4 in SA for the next 8-9 months)

Any more and they would be paying for it rather than offsetting their losses, so they shut it down

The SSO offer and three for free are very similar but definitely not the same thing. On the FAQ section of the three for free plan page it explicitly states that the SSO offer is mandated by the government (meaning AGL is forced to offer it) and three for free is a market offer (meaning AGL voluntarily chose to offer it). In my past experience, stuff is always better when a company chooses to offer it rather than being forced and that shows here with three for free offering 15c/kwh feed in from 5-9pm, 0c/kwh at all other hours when SSO always pays 0c/kWh, a $150 sign up credit in SA where market offer doesn’t give one and I’m in NSW so you might not get this but even a 2c cheaper daily supply charge (which I know is next to nothing but still). Those are the only differences that I know of between the two offers so in my view three for free is just a much more competitive SSO, and a response to other companies competitive 3/4 free hours electricity plans that offer similar benefits such as covau’s solar max, globird zero hero, origin battery charge and flow power 4free to name a few.

They no longer offer the "solar sharer" because they've merged them into the same plan...

Hi, yes if you were already on AGL's Three for Free plan in SA, the window of time has been updated.

. . . and I don't recall 3 for Free being capped before, now at the same rate as mandated govco SSO (24kwh).

Much like after the SSO came through, many other retailer plans who had free solar soak power fro 3 or 4 hours also started capping their offers, I think globird went to 50kwh cap, when that one was uncapped in a free market.
