Lots of unhappy power consumers around the country now Andy.

It's the AER setting base pricing in various states / regions, and ALL retailers (even wholesalers like Amber) are hit with the same new DMO prices.

Retailers work out how they will charge their customers, with very huge price spikes and fluctuations in the rates they get charged, I really think it's like a gamble for retailers . . . so they often aim high to ensure they are covered for what they need to operate and profit.

That's no ease in the hip pocket pain, I know.

Best you can do is make sure you ARE on the best plan for your home power usage, compare retailers as some have better options for different home power usage patterns.

Personally, the few times I have looked around at energymadeeasy.gov.au I have found no other retailer here in SA to suit us.

The tariffs might be less, but the daily supply charge much higher, or vice versa.

Yes, govco is responsible for this, over the past 40 years or so, both majors.

They don't care, the more bills are, the more gst is reaped, govco own nothing productive now, and must get the $ needed to run the country and line their pensions from taxes. Plenty of new taxes in Aussies futures too.

Best of luck Andy, hope you can find the best offer you can.

Yes, happening all round the place, and numerous threads now on here, on Facebook posts, etc . . . where are you located ?

Here in SA, my peak TOU tariff (13 hours a day 0600 - 1000 and 1500 - midnight) is going up nearly 15% to a bit over 56c, and daily supply charge going up nearly 14%.

FITs going down 50%, with a change from 4c to 2c . . . and that had already dropped 33% only last year from 6c to 4c.

Not much you can do apart from make sure you are on the best deal you can, with AGL or other retailer / wholesale model, reduce waste / more effective use of home power, and really try and nail down your solar production, use as much of your solar production as you can self consuming, that's where solar only works best now.

If your solar is suitable, a battery (if one can be afforded) will probably help immensely to shift excess production to peak use times (load shifting production, reducing amount of feed in to using this yourself).

Good luck.

Hi,

We completely understand that price changes can be frustrating — especially when you’re doing your best to manage everyday household expenses. It’s completely valid to feel concerned, and we want you to know your experience matters to us.

Energy rates are influenced by a range of factors such as wholesale costs (what we pay for electricity), network charges (for poles, wires and meters), retailer costs, and government schemes supporting renewables energy. If you're interested in understanding more about why these changes occur, we’ve put together some helpful information here: http://agllink.co/6000SqCpm.

If you'd like, I’d really appreciate the opportunity to look into your options together. Just send me a direct message, and I’ll personally help explore ways to reduce your costs and maximize your savings while ensuring you’re on the right plan.

You’re not alone in this, and we’ll do everything we can to make sure you feel supported.

Thanks Syed,

Short of re-nationalising the electricity supply/network there is nothing you can do to help me.

I am sick and tired of corporate double-speak designed to mask the fact your shareholders profit from providing us with a service that should never have been privatised.

Your employer sells me power and gas that I used to get from a publicly owned entity.

I really didn't mind if that publicly owned entity wasn't as efficient as it might be - after all, any money I gave it went back into the system - not some shareholder's personal bank account.

The whole system is a scam and your company is just one of the many vultures stripping the flesh from the public body corporate in order to feed a group of ever-richer anti-humanists.

I only recently updated my plan, so I doubt there is anything you can do in that regard.

May I just say, the notion that you have different plans I find in itself to be offensive. Likewise the notion that, as someone on the Disability Support benefit payment, I would not automatically be put onto the best (cheapest) plan, is also offensive.

But then, given the recent ACCC court case against Optus and the way it treated Indigenous Australians I am no longer surprised by the depths to which Austrlian corporations are willing to sink in order to prey upon the weakest and poorest to feed the greed of your owners.

Have a nice day

Mark Lott

So Thanks AGL.. you've just increased my rates from the 1st of July 2025 after having only just increased them at the start of April 2025.. so you're not waiting 12 months to increase rates now every 3 months !

Thanks to federal government policy to pull apart a perfectly good energy system and replace it with an inefficient one and then charge everyone for it. As long as everybody votes for this I guess the rates will just keep increasing to pay for the new infrastructure..
