Special meter read fee in the same property why?

We took the lease of the same property we were staying in. We were already with AGL. Only the name of the person taking over has changed than why do you guys charged for the special meter read. However, we never asked anyone to come and check the meter.

Welcome to the AGL Community!

For an account to change hands, we need a meter reading for the desired changeover date so that we know when to bill the previous account holder to and also a reference point to start billing the new account holder from. To obtain this meter reading, a meter reader is specially sent out to the property on the desired date to obtain this data.

I can appreciate that getting slapped with this sort of fee isn't pleasant, but it's critical to ensure that you're billing accurately!
